Intro to Energy Access Measurement Methodologies, the Multi-Tier Framework and Digital Tools

SDG7 aims at having universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy by 2030. The Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of The World Bank has developed the Multi-tier Framework to monitor and evaluate energy access by following a multidimensional approach. The objective of the online seminar is to provide an introduction to this methodology and explore the advantages and drawbacks of the MTF approach.

CO2 carbonation as a pathway for a sustainable cement industry?

The European Green Deal is targeting to “decarbonise and modernise” energy intensive industries including the cement sector. As a major contributor to climate change, the cement industry is responsible for approx. 7% of all global anthropogenic emissions and 18% of the emissions covered by the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. Since more than half of the materials that humans use on earth are “cementitious” – including concrete, cement and other building materials – it is currently difficult to imagine a life without cement. On the contrary, an increasing use can be expected. Therefore, the need for sustainable pathways in the production of such materials is growing.

Re-Using CO2? From Whether to How

The CO2nsisten Team is happy to present its research activity on CO2 utilization technologies and related assessment methodologies. The project, funded for three years, is financed by the Global CO2 Initiative and the EIT Climate-KIC. The team will describe the dual character of its work: investigating disciplinary aspects such as how to properly evaluate CCU technologies (techno-economic and Life Cycle assessments), while having also a relevant focus on informing and supporting decision- and policy-makers.
