The ecological crisis is a crisis of Space, Time and Knowledge. This presentation introduces a radical new vision of reality based on the works of Tarthang Tulku, a Tibetan Nyingma Buddhist lama. The investigation and explorations in his first book, titled “Time, Space and Knowledge” can activate new ways of knowing and being that goes beyond a self-orientation.

This event is the first part of a series of Dialogue Workshops in the Southeast Atlantic region. It will explore the current status and challenges of ocean governance in the Southeast Atlantic, especially with regard to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

In this talk, Sheila Jasanoff, Pforzheimer Professor of Science and Technology Studies at the Harvard Kennedy School, will trace the modern scientific narratives of human-nature relationships through the lens of environmental law. She will ask what difference the concept of the Anthropocene—in particular, its embrace of the geologic timescale—makes to our notions of responsibility toward a planet that we not only inhabit but also consume and transform through human enterprise.

This workshop in Cali, Colombia, will focus on the current status and challenges of global and regional ocean governance in the Southeast Pacific region. Its purpose is to foster exchange among stakeholders, build new networks, and identify key interests and challenges, especially with regard to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity, with a focus on areas beyond national jurisdiction.
