Climate Finance and Investment in Times of Crisis: Towards a New Partnership with the Global South

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together scholars who work on the topic of climate finance from an international political economy perspective. The proposed workshop will explore the evolution of climate finance within the context of the current vacuum of leadership within the international system. It will shed light on how climate finance is developing within different institutional settings and how it is being shaped by different actors and the interests they bring to bear in the field. In particular, it will focus on climate finance as an arena for contestation and cooperation in the context of North-South relations. The goal of the workshop is to build a network of scholars in the field and discuss possible applications for a research grant on the topic.

Future Governance of Ocean-Based Negative Emissions Technologies

The deployment of ocean-based ‘negative emissions technologies’ (NETs) to enhance the natural function of the ocean to sequester and store carbon has been proposed to keep within temperature limits as agreed upon by the global community. While the deployment of NETs for large-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) holds potential also for alleviating climatic pressures on the ocean, a range of challenges have been identified, including related specifically to governance of the technologies. The aim of this in-person two-day workshop is to look towards the future and identify opportunities within the global ocean governance regime to govern ocean-based NETs in a comprehensive manner.

Gebäudesanierung: Wie kommen wir in die Umsetzung?

An diesen beiden tagen wird diskutiert, vor welchen Herausforderungen der sozialen Gerechtigkeit und Inklusion die energetische Gebäudesanierung steht und welche Sensibilisierungs- und Beratungsmöglichkeiten es in beiden Ländern gibt. Wir werden uns mit nationalen und regionalen Finanzierungsmechanismus sowie der Bedeutung der Stadtentwicklungspolitik bei der Senkung des Energieverbrauchs von Gebäuden befassen. Es wird auch die Gelegenheit geben, sich von bereits bewährten Praktiken inspirieren zu lassen.

SOS-ZEROPOL2030 General Assembly in Potsdam

The second project partner meeting of the Horizon Europe Project “Source to Seas – Zero Pollution 2030” brings together a consortium from 10 European institutions with expertise in fundamental and applied natural sciences, social sciences and in human behaviour. The meeting will take place from 24 to 26 October 2023 and will be hosted by RIFS in Potsdam. The consortium will exchange on relevant project updates and work progress. The Horizon Europe project has the overall aim to develop a holistic, stakeholder led zero pollution framework to guide the EU in the process towards achieving zero pollution in European Seas by 2030.

Zum Auftakt seines neuen Arbeitszyklus lädt das Deutsch-Französisches Zukunftswerk ausgewählte lokale Partner:innen zu einem zweitägigen Austausch in Berlin ein. Bis Ende 2024 wird sich das Zukunftswerk mit Fragen der Klimaneutralität im gebäudebestand beschäftigen. Insbesondere werden die Themen energetische Gebäudesanierung, kommunale Wärmeplanung, erneuerbare Energieversorgung und Energiesuffizienz gewidmet.
