Tracing the Invisible: Walking the Energeocene

09.11.2025
Uhrzeit:

Planetary Transitions Programme (RIFS, DAAD, City of Potsdam), Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS Potsdam)

Energy is everywhere, yet unseen. What powers your comfort? Join us to trace the hidden metabolism of energy and resources beneath urban life — and imagine new ways of living with the Energeocene.

What really powers us — our bodies, our cities, our planet?
Beneath Berlin’s streets and buildings lies a vast, monstrous infrastructure of energy — a hidden giant that quietly shapes how we live, breathe, and connect. Its geographies often remain unseen, even though they are central to our planetary climate future.

What to expect

This participatory walk turns Berlin into an open-air laboratory. Together, we will:

  •  Slow down and look closer — tracing the hidden flows of energy landscapes and resources running through urban life.
  • Connect across scales — from the planetary systems within our bodies to the invisible infrastructures.
  • Embody the non-human city — plants, animals, materials, and planetary resources that make up this energy ecology.
  • Co-create — through this bottom-up process, we will map the invisible through drawings and build a collective visual inquiry into processes, metabolic cycles, and energy ecologies.

Why join?

The workshop is created by an international, multidisciplinary team bringing ecological, scientific, and sociological perspectives together.

You will leave with a new way of seeing your city and understanding energy — not just as technical data or numbers, but as cultural, social, ecological, and living systems.

Together, we will reimagine the Energeocene: a collective narrative of care for our shared resources and a more conscious urban future attuned to planetary limits.
