Co-Creative Reflection and Dialogue Space at COP 27

Venue: Blue Zone, Thematic Arena 1, Building 90, at end of the ground floor on the left side, Google-maps-Code.

Context

Over the past six years, the Co-Creative Reflection & Dialogue Space (CCRDS) has evolved as a transdisciplinary intervention for research and transformation at the UN Climate Change Conference. The experiments with a space for reflection, dialogue and co-creation were based on the understanding that the quality of how the diverse actors at the COP relate to one another is a key factor for action and collaboration. We experimented with transformative communication spaces, principles and approaches perceived as conducive or non-conducive to action.

Theoretical insights have opened up new avenues of interest, namely that of a better and more profound understanding of communication based on what we call "relational communication". Relational communication as a strong leverage for eco-sociological transformation in our still very initial understanding aims to cultivate encounters, dialogues, and experiences with a certain quality of interaction that builds on values such as empathy, authenticity, and openness.

At the UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai

At the upcoming COP 28 in Dubai we aim to further enhance our understand of relational communication practices and to amplify principles and practices of relational communication and increase impact. We will reorient our work towards finding resonance with other stakeholders. Our aim is to partner with others, learn from each other and strengthen relational communication practices at the COP through scaling or amplification practices.

  • Firstly, we seek to prolong, deepen, and stabilize the activities of relational communication within the CCRDS by offering some reflection and dialogue sessions in our pavilion space at COP 28 (see below table of events).
  • Secondly, we aim to identify actors and organizations who are on a similar path to explore relational communication and to learn about their approaches to increase impact and create fields of change. We will interview some of them and partly live stream them, too. (More information about these will be announced in below template during the COP and on our twitter channel).
  • Thirdly, we want to proactively build transformative partnerships to amplify relational communication practices, including the principles, insights and methods of the CCRDS. Together, we want to reflect on our own practices, achieved outputs and potential impacts on the COP and its communication culture.

We are interested in any exchange on transformative communication and invite for informal conversations in our CCRDS pavilion space at COP28.

During this practice we will explore how we - individually and collectively - can deepen our shared capacities to be in and navigate the complexity of COP28 with ease and clarity, nurture alignment and meaningful next steps. We use systemic constellations as an experiential practice to explore complex societal and multi-stakeholder issues. No previous experience required.
