Climate Policy: Acceptance Influences Perceptions of Effectiveness
A new study by the Research Institute for Sustainability at the GFZ (RIFS) examines the relationship between acceptance of climate policy measures and their perceived effectiveness. The conventional assumption that people support a policy on the basis of its effectiveness is only partially true, according to the study’s findings. Instead, the study indicates that other policy features such as a fair distribution of its consequences exert a stronger influence on both the acceptance of a measure and its perceived effectiveness. According to lead author Jean-Henri Huttarsch, these insights have significant implications for how climate protection measures are designed and communicated.
