Lina Röschel joined the RIFS Ocean Governance research group as research associate in 2021. Her research focuses on the intersection of ocean and climate governance, with a particular emphasis on the governance of marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) and marine geoengineering. Since 2025, she is a doctoral candidate at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg as part of the RIFS Transdisciplinary PhD Programme, focusing on the topic "Towards Equitable Governance of Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal." Her research combines international governance analyses with transdisciplinary methods. Additionally, she works on the topic of blue carbon ecosystems and ocean-based climate solutions. Prior to joining RIFS, Lina Röschel worked as a researcher at the Ecologic Institute in Berlin, focusing on European environmental and nature conservation policy. Her professional background also includes positions at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), the NewClimate Institute, and the United Nations (UN DESA). She studied Physical Geography of Human-Environment Systems at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and completed a semester abroad at New York University.
