IMPACT-R Project - Energy, Food Security & Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Needs Identification in rural Rwanda

The project Establishing Collaborative Frameworks for Researchers, Impact Makers, and Sustainable Entrepreneurs aims to foster research and action for improving access to basic services in rural remote areas and track the progress made.
The objective of the project is to understand the needs at household level in regards to access to energy, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) & food security.
Collaborating with microfinance institutions, non-governmental organizations and researchers, a series of data collection campaigns are being conducted in several countries in Latin America, Africa and South Asia.
For these organizations, the studies represent baseline data for identifying the current needs of their clients and prepare future programs.
A webinar on Monday, 14th of June at 1pm, gives an overview of the experience the project team has had in Rwanda.
Collaborating with the German organization Sustainable Villages Foundation (SVF), a baseline study has been conducted in April, to assess the needs in this nexus and understand the priorities in the rural villages of Bisagara and Rugarama.
The study was conducted in the framework of IMPACT-R project using the questionnaires with the measuring approaches Multi-Tier Framework (MTF) from the ESMAP for energy access assessment, Joint Monitoring Programme from WHO/UNICEF for WASH, and the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) from FAO for food security.
IASS Klaus Töpfer Sustainability Fellow Natalia Realpe Carrillo and Joachim Hauschopp from SVF will be presenting about the project and are keen to share what they did, the methods, the role of digitization and tools from HEDERA, and most importantly, the “why” of their work.
Speakers:
Natalia Realpe Carrillo, IASS
Joachim Hauschopp, Sustainable Villages Foundation.
