By providing energy independence, a buffer against fossil-price volatility, and future-oriented employment, the social and economic co-benefits of the energy transition are spurring the growth of renewable energy generation across the globe.

Capacity building and vocational training programmes are essential to understanding the full socioeconomic potential of renewable energy solutions and can contribute to increasing businesses’ and government agencies’ social and economic performances.

With this event, we invite you learn about the COBENEFITS training programme to empower your organisation and teams. Building on five years of capacity building experience with over 1,000 successful participants, and informed by an international study series within the framework of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), you are invited to explore and discuss:

  • How high are the co-benefits when renewable energies are expanded in my country?
  • How can I train my employees, so that they can develop and represent resilient arguments for political renewable energy expansion strategies or for concrete renewable energy projects?

This BETD 2022 Side Event is hosted by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and the Renewables Academy AG (RENAC) as part of the larger COBENEFITS project.

The COBENEFITS project supports national authorities and knowledge partners in countries around the world, including India, Turkey, South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, and Vietnam, to connect the social and economic co-benefits of decarbonising the power sector to national development priorities and to mobilise these co-benefits for early and ambitious climate action. The project supports efforts to develop enhanced NDCs with the goal of achieving Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development (SDGs) objectives as well as to facilitate a socially and economically just transition.
