Affiliate Scholar (Alumni)

Cynthia Browne's current research centers on the afterlives and material legacies of mining across differently situated bodies and landscapes. One component of this research focuses on this legacy through transductive transversals of the sonic in relation to underground industrial milieus; another focuses on the metamorphoses of water as an "informed material" within the landscapes of brown coal extraction in Germany. Her doctoral work focused on art, performativity, post-industrial temporalities and landscape urbanism in the Ruhr Valley of Germany. She received her PhD from Harvard University in Anthropology and Critical Media Studies in 2019.
