Experimentelle Stadt, nachhaltige Stadt? Potenziale von Experimentierlösungen im öffentlichen Raum in Deutschland und Frankreich

Climate change and socio-economic developments require a rethinking of public spaces in urban areas: more urban greenery, more space for active mobility, more communal spaces. Local authorities have found it difficult so far to quickly and flexibly implement the necessary changes. Against this backdrop, experimental solutions of urban development, such as Pop-Ups are gaining increasing attention. Using four case studies from Germany and France, the Franco-German Forum for the Future analyses the extent to which experimental solutions help to accelerate urban development, promote the appropriation of public spaces by the population and increase the adaptability of spatial design. These potentials certainly exist. Yet, administrative processes need to become more flexible and daring. The national governments in Germany and France could create better framework conditions for municipalities to do this.
