Headline: The Skin of our Planet: Call for Applications to the 2018 Potsdam Summer School

The Earth’s surface is the foundation of all human activity. Geological, biological and climatic dynamics like the carbon cycle, soil formation, and climate and ocean currents form a complex web of connected processes, whose interactions are not yet fully understood. The fifth Potsdam Summer School from 10 to 19 September 2018 is devoted to “The Skin of our Planet – the Earth’s Surface System”.

Early-career scientists and young professionals from the private sector, governmental agencies and non-governmental organisations can apply to participate in this year’s summer school until 30 April. The intensive and varied programme is intended to equip participants with transdisciplinary knowledge and a deep understanding of the processes that shape the sensitive surface of the Earth. The following central questions will be addressed: Why is the Earth surface system dynamic? What are the triggers of dynamic processes? What are possible societal adaptation strategies for sustainable land management?

The programme will include lectures, various discussion formats, and interactive projects. The Summer School brings together talented young researchers and professionals from around the world to discuss frontier research questions, foster international cooperation, and provide opportunities for networking.

If you would like to attend the 2018 Potsdam Summer School, please submit your application including any supporting documents by 15 May 2018.
