Tülin Fidan
Affiliate Scholar
Tülin Fidan is currently working on her PhD whilst also serving as a research assistant at the German Maritime Museum as part of the REMARCO project. This project involves research into munitions, wrecks of warships and toxic substances in the North Sea. Her affiliation with RIFS enables her to collaborate with and participate in the activities of the research group “Planetary Geopolitics and Geoengineering”, which is increasingly focusing on extractive processes, with Fidan’s expertise on human-sea relationships proving a valuable asset.
Together, Fidan and the members of the group will investigate changes to the sea and the planet – such as the territorialisation of the ocean, the contamination of marine ecosystems by munitions, or the use of the sea as a dumping ground for waste. The collaboration involves the further conceptualisation and development of this research in close cooperation with Gretchen Bakke and other members of the “Planetary Geopolitics and Geoengineering” research group, in particular Stefan Schäfer.
