Tülin Fidan
Affiliate Scholar
Tülin Fidan is currently preparing her PhD project while working as a researcher at the German Maritime Museum in the REMARCO project on munitions, warship wrecks and toxic substances in the North Sea. The affiliation with RIFS will allow her to receive further training in STS and in the critical study of planetary environmental sciences, through collaborating with, and participating in the activities of, the Planetary Geopolitics and Geoengineering research group. The group will in turn profit from Tülin's expertise on human-sea relations, especially in the context of extractive processes that the group is increasingly focusing on. Together, Tülin and group members will explore intentional changes to sea and planet - e.g., making the ocean a territory, poisoning the sea with munition, or using it as a dumping ground for waste.
The cooperation will involve the further conceptualization and development of this research in close cooperation with Gretchen Bakke and other members of the Planetary Geopolitics and Geoengineering Research Group, especially Stefan Schäfer, who was an examiner for one of Tülin's final MA exams and supperted her in developing her MA thesis at an early stage.
