Tobias Rausch will, as an Affiliate Scholar, prepare a research project on the arts-based exploration of narratives of complexity avoidance. In collaboration with Dr. Gesine Steudle (Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology) and Dr. Jobst Heitzig (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, PIK), he will develop an agent-based modelling approach and the staging of a complex decision-making scenario. This experimental setting will be used to investigate the extent to which the attitudes of selected target groups toward complexity and uncertainty can be challenged and transformed.

Together with the research group leader, he will further develop the social science foundations for the analysis of existing narratives of complexity avoidance and establish a network of academic and artistic-creative collaborators whose expertise will support the project. In cooperation with these partners, he will also prepare applications for third-party funding to enable the implementation and further development of the research project.
