Swaantje Güntzel is a conceptual artist. For almost 20 years, she has engaged with the radical transformation of landscape through the human impact and the global challenges posed by climate change, plastic in the oceans, biodiversity extinction and the resulting psychological consequences for humanity. In her artistic practice, she regularly collaborates with scientists from a wide range of disciplines.

After studying anthropology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, she completed postgraduate studies in fine arts at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HfbK) and worked for several years as the artistic assistant to Andreas Slominski.

She participated in exhibitions in Germany and abroad such as the Bröhan-Museum Berlin, Schiller-Museum Weimar, Museum der bildenden Künste (MdbK) Leipzig, Konstmuseum Ystad, Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, Museum of Modern Art Honolulu, Österreichischer Skulpturenpark Graz and Kunsthaus Nürnberg. As an artist, she has received grants including the Research Grant from the Danish Arts Council, the Ingmar Bergman Estates Residency on the Baltic Sea island of Fårö in Sweden, and the RONDO Studio Grant from the Province of Styria, Austria. In 2015 she won the ars loci art prize of the Neuhoff-Fricke Foundation for the Promotion of Art and Science.
