As an Affiliate Scholar, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Matthias will continue his collaboration with the ACSD research group during the proposed period. A key focus of this collaboration will be the continuation of the joint research-based teaching seminar on intermediality and the aesthetics of sustainability. The conceptual and empirical approaches developed within this framework will be further elaborated in collaboration with Manuel Rivera and, where appropriate, Teresa Erbach, with the aim of generating joint scholarly publications.
In addition, Sebastian Matthias will support the preparation of the externally funded accompanying research project planned from 2026 onwards in connection with the graduate programme “Art as Social Practice” at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. In collaboration with the research group leader, he will contribute to the conceptual development of the research design, including the formulation of appropriate evaluation criteria and methodological frameworks.
A further focus of the collaboration will be the investigation of the role of artistic practices in urban transformation processes. Together with members of the ACSD research group, Sebastian Matthias will further develop and explore research approaches that enable the analysis and empirical assessment of the effectiveness of artistic interventions in fostering sustainable societal transformations.
