SOS-Zeropol2030: Deliverable D4.2 Overview (report, one for each region) of obstacles and best practices within the current regional and national governance landscape to achieve zero pollution of the selected pollutant case studies

This report presents an overview of obstacles and best practices within the European Union’s current regional and national governance landscape to achieve zero marine pollution. In line with the wider SOS-ZEROPOL2030 project, the focus is on two pollutants of emerging concern: per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and tyre wear particles (TWPs). The document includes focused one-pager reports for each regional sea to visualize available information on regional governance efforts. Our data comes from extensive document analysis, semi-structured expert interviews and personal communications, and the outcomes of the three regional Living Labs with expert stakeholders conducted so far within SOS-ZEROPOL2030. We identify overlaps and disconnects between current EU regulatory developments around zero pollution of PFAS and TWPs and the regional, national, industry and civil society efforts to address production, use and end-of-pipe governance of PFAS in the North-East Atlantic region and the Black Sea region, and TWPs in the Mediterranean Sea region.
