Headline: How Does Art Foster Sustainability? IASS Invites Applications for Fellowships

Science and art are often viewed as two distinct worlds that differ in terms of both their essence and impacts. The connections and synergies between art and science have only been explored to a limited extent to date. A new fellowship programme established at the IASS for artists will foster dialogue on issues related to sustainability between science and art.

Although it is primarily a research institute, the IASS recognises the need to harness all sources of knowledge and ingenuity to support the transition to more sustainable societies. The new fellowship programme for artists will enable the institute to tap into the synergies that can arise by bringing together artistic and scientific knowledge. The programme is open to practitioners of all career levels from the fields of visual art, arts and crafts, music, and literature as well as the performing arts. Up to five fellowships of a duration of between six and twelve months will be awarded.

Individuals interested in applying to this programme are advised to familiarize themselves with our research and to contact the Research Group Leader(s) of the project(s) with which they would like to collaborate. Stipends provided through this programme are tax free under German law and scaled relative to the practitioners’ experience and circumstances. Applications can also be made to the IASS for funding in relation to production, travel and publishing expenses as well as for the organisation of events in connection with the fellowship. Applications must be submitted no later than 27 October 2019.
