Headline: CO₂ game on tour in northern Germany

At the moment, every single German causes around 11 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. However, in order to stabilise the climatic conditions on Earth, each person should not cause more than 2.5 tons of CO₂ emissions. The current emissions are thus four times as high as scientists recommend in order to prevent global warming of more than 2 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels.

“Many of us only know CO₂ as an abstract concept from the media and still do not grasp how closely greenhouse gas emissions are linked to our daily lives. Developing this awareness early is important,” explains Dr. Thomas Bruhn, physicist and atmospheric scientist working in the IASS research cluster “Sustainable Interactions with the Atmosphere”. Using an interactive CO₂ game he developed, Dr. Bruhn explains how everyone can contribute to a more climate-friendly lifestyle at two events on 12 November 2013: the Sustainability Day at the University of Kiel (Christian-Albrechts-Universität) and the annual conference of the CLUB OF ROME schools network in Hamburg.
