Headline: Restructuring of industrial value chains

In a series of workshops we want to discuss the restructuring of industrial value chains in the context of the transformation towards a carbon neutral economy. Join us and share your expertise!

Germany and the EU have set themselves ambitious climate targets, with the former planning to achieve climate neutrality by 2045, the latter by 2050. The pressure to decarbonise society as a whole – and industry in particular – is increasing accordingly. Supply and value chains are changing and need to be adapted at the same time.

Our economy is characterised by complex, interlinking production and value chains that span the globe. More than 450 million people now work in global supply chains – a third of the workforce in the EU alone. Parallel to the emergence of new value chains in connection with hydrogen and renewable energies and their impact on energy-intensive basic industries, existing value chains in particular, such as the automotive industry and its supplier structures, are facing profound change. Disruptive changes and transformation processes will lead to socio- and geo-economic challenges not only in Germany, but also in the EU and worldwide and require forward-looking and strategic political action.

This joint workshop series organized by the IG BCE Foundation for Labour and Environment, the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and the German Energy Agency (dena) offers the opportunity to discuss various aspects of the restructuring of industrial value chains in the context of this transformation. Participants are invited to contribute their expertise in the discussions.

The workshops will be hosted on Zoom on 20.09, 7.10 and 21.10.2021.
