Headline: Re-Energising Sustainable Transitions in Europe

The Sustainable Energy Transitions Laboratory project (SENTINEL) is coordinating the organisation of the EMP-E 2021: Re-Energising Sustainable Transitions in Europe with support of other Horizon2020 energy modelling projects. The conference will take place as an online event on 26-28 October 2021.

The annual EMP-E conference brings together Europe’s energy modelling community but also policymakers and representatives from energy industry and civil society over a three-day period in a forum for deep exchange of research, modelling practice and applications, and varied discussions.

This year’s conference focuses on energy system modelling, methods and results to support the European Green Deal. The three days will deal with:

  • Policies and Targets: Targets for 2030 and 2050; COP26; biodiversity and environment policies and post COVID recovery;
  • Linking Sectors and Technologies: The building sector; Smartness of energy systems; digital input and technological diffusion;
  • Collaborative and Transparent Modelling: How to promote better transparency and collaboration across modelling teams; the energy-modelling projects of the European Commission; how to capture (model) social and behavioural change.

On day 1, 14:00-16:00 CET, IASS will host together with the Renewables Grid Initiative and the TEESlab a parallel session on ‘Making energy models more relevant for policy-making’. The panel will bring together researchers and decisionmakers to discuss why some of the models are being used in policymaking and some are not, and what are the conditions that modelling results can be more relevant to policy- and decision-makers. We call for contributions to the parallel session! If you are interested in contributing to the panel with a small talk, please get in touch with diana [dot] suesser [at] iass-potsdam [dot] de.

EMP-E 2021 is open for registration. If you wish to participate, please register here.
