Knowledge-making beyond text: Environmental harm and audiovisual storytelling in the Himalayas

How can audiovisual storytelling contribute to documenting environmental harm and producing knowledge about environmental change? This event brings together photographers, filmmakers, researchers and civil society actors to explore the role of visual storytelling in making environmental experiences and perspectives visible.

The programme opens with a screening of the 24-minute Nepali film Marsyangdi Wile Ri’iba – May you live as long as the river. The screening will be followed by a discussion on environmental harm and audiovisual storytelling in the Himalayas.

The panel will be moderated by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati of photo.circle, Nepal. The panellists are Praveen Chettri (Save the Hills, India), Samagrah Shah (photo.circle Fellow 2026, Nepal), Mariona Guiu (Creative Lead, RIVERS project, Spain) and Dr. Lieselotte Viaene (Executive Producer and Principal Investigator, RIVERS project, Belgium). The event will be opened by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati and Dr. Eva Brems of the Human Rights Centre at Ghent University.
