Headline: Intro to Energy Access Measurement Methodologies, the Multi-Tier Framework and Digital Tools

SDG7 aims at having universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy by 2030. In order to reach the goal, the concept and measurement of energy access has gained significant interests from governments and development agencies.

The Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) of The World Bank, under the SE4ALL initiative, in consultation with multiple development partners has developed the Multi-tier Framework (MTF) to monitor and evaluate energy access by following a multidimensional approach. This comprehensive framework complements the binary approach  currently used to track progress toward SDG targets.

The objective of the online seminar is to provide an introduction to this methodology and explore the advantages and drawbacks of the MTF approach.

• How is energy access measured in the tiered-spectrum?
• What are the objectives of the Global Survey for Multi-tier Energy Access Tracking?
• Why is the approach relevant and what are ways forward for its implementation and improvement?
• How can it be connected to further basic services assessments and collected using digital tools?

Bio:
Dr.-Ing. Natalia Realpe Carrillo is an IASS Klaus Töpfer Sustainability Fellow and director of HEDERA Sustainable Solutions GmbH https://hedera.online/, a tech company dedicated to developing software solutions to help financial institutions efficiently analyze their clients' needs and demands in terms of basic services and track their contribution to the SDGs. In parallel to her work at HEDERA, Natalia is guest lecturer at the Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences including Climate Change (PAUWES) and at TU Berlin Campus El Gouna.
Natalia holds a PhD in energy access from the TU Berlin Energy Engineering Institute. She has worked for over a decade in the green microfinance sector as senior project manager and energy consultant, supporting institutions in enabling access to clean energy in rural remote regions and managing projects in Latin America, Central Asia, and Africa. Since 2019, Natalia has been co-leading the e-MFP Green Inclusive & Climate-Smart Finance AG http://www.e-mfp.eu/actions-groups/microfinance-environment. Natalia regularly delivers trainings and workshops on green microfinance, energy access, and impact metrics
