Formats, success factors and challenges of interministerial coordination for achieving the SDGs
Today’s increasingly complex, interconnected sustainable development challenges require coherent policies that integrate all three dimensions of sustainable development – social, environmental, and economic. Inclusive and collaborative coordination and decision-making processes across ministries, departments and public agencies are therefore crucial (A/RES/66/288; UN E-Government Survey 2014; UNEP, 2024).
In line with the HLPF 2025 theme of “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind”, the purpose of this Side Event is to present and discuss preliminary research results and insights from different country contexts on formats, success factors and challenges for interministerial coordination for sustainable development. To create an open space for peer learning, the organizers invite all participants to share their experiences in horizontal coordination approaches for achieving the SDGs. The key messages of the Side Event will be made available in a summary report.
