Headline: Carbon Capture and Utilisation Technologies - Technological status, environmental impacts, and policy developments.

In 2017, the European Commission DG Climate Action launched a study to identify and build a better understanding of novel and promising carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies.
 
The study, conducted by Ramboll, together with our consortium partners Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS Potsdam), Universität Kassel, Center for Environmental Systems Research, CE Delft and IOM Law, had two specific objectives:

1. To assess the technological and market readiness of different CCU technologies and thus to clarify which types of technologies are viable for support, including from the planned Innovation Fund under the EU ETS.
2. To examine the EU regulatory set up related to CCU technologies, and to assess whether specific provisions are necessary to enhance the contribution of these innovative technologies to climate mitigation.

The study is now coming to a close, and results will be presented to a wide audience during a public event open to all stakeholders interested in latest developments related to CCU technologies.
 
The public event will consist of a presentation of findings by the contractor and followed by a panel discussion around key issue areas identified during the study. The panel will be composed of leading experts in the field of CCU from the side of academia, industry and policy, and will lead to discussions on topics such as current and future potential for CCU technologies in the EU, industry and research efforts, policy implications, links to EU climate objectives, energy issues, and impacts on other technologies (such as electrification, hydrogen, and renewables).
