Michael Brown joined the IASS in November 2019 as a Fellow. An urban planner and designer, Michael produces comprehensive land use plans, zoning laws and administered land use policies and development regulations in the USA. Working at the intersection of architecture, urban design, community building, and real estate development, he manages collaborations among the many stakeholders with each assignment to deliver solutions balanced between the practical and the aspirational. Michael is currently researching best practices in creating science-based land use policies and development regulations for climate adaptation and mitigation. This research includes the collection and interpretation of relevant data and the narratives that shape public opinion and political discourse. This work is funded through his participation in the 2019-2020 Robert Bosch Fellowship Foundation Program. Certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners, Michael is immediate past president of the American Planning Association- National Capital Chapter with active memberships in the Urban Land Institute and Lambda Alpha International. He was recently appointed to the advisory committee for the Urban Studies & Planning Program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
