
Dr. Galina Churkina
Senior Fellow (Alumni)
Dr Galina Churkina was a senior fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies and a visiting scientist at the Geography Department of Humboldt University in Berlin. Focus of her research is on feedbacks between urbanisation and the atmosphere and their implications for society. She uses state-of-the-art computer models along with ground and satellite measurements to analyse these feedbacks. Galina holds a PhD from the School of Forestry, University of Montana, USA and a diploma in Mathematics from Moscow State University, Russia. For many years she worked as a senior scientist and group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Germany. She was also a visiting scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, USA and at the School of Natural Resources and Environment, University of Michigan, USA.
